Wellness & Longevity · Tumor Marker Test

Tumor markers need context—they are not an answer for every cancer

Tumor markers may support diagnosis, monitoring or treatment assessment in some contexts, but an abnormal value does not always mean cancer and a normal value does not exclude all cancer.

iSuitability, potential benefit and risk vary between individuals.

General health information

What is Tumor Marker Test?

Markers can be measured in blood, fluids or tissue and are usually combined with history, examination, imaging and other tests.

Many markers lack enough sensitivity or specificity for general population screening.

Goals of the service

  • Define why a marker is being ordered
  • Choose a marker that fits the context
  • Interpret it with other information
  • Plan confirmation or referral when needed

General health information

Who should begin with an assessment?

We begin with a clear clinical question before selecting tests or a program for the individual.

  • 01

A specific indication based on history or disease monitoring

  • 02

A clinician needs it alongside other information

  • 03

A prior result needs systematic follow-up

  • 04

Understanding of false-positive and false-negative limitations

Review symptoms, conditions, medicines, supplements, allergies, family history and health goals.

02 — Assess necessity

Select only tests or services with a reason, and explain limitations before proceeding.
